Stargazers’ big night

Green Dragon Rare Breeds and Eco Centre logo

Budding astronomers are being invited to spend an evening studying the skies above Hogshaw, Bucks, with the help of local enthusiasts and to hear about the solar system, both fact and fiction.

This fun event ‘Stories in the Stars & Our Marvellous Moon’ provides a beginner’s guide to astronomy led by local enthusiasts from Aylesbury-based UK Astronomy. As there is little light pollution in the skies above Green Dragon rare breeds farm and eco centre, the site is an ideal spot from which to observe our solar system. Using telescopes and the naked eye, visitors will learn about the main stars and constellations and the stories and legends associated. A NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador will also be coming to talk about the moon, including its phases, orbit and what causes super moons.

This event is for families and visitors of all ages, from beginners to enthusiasts, who are welcome to bring their own scopes. If cloudy, UK Astronomy will set up their planetarium software in the Eco Centre events room in order to show visitors around a virtual sky of that very night and give them the opportunity to try out equipment and learn about all things ‘space’.
