Festival’s green theme
This year’s Waterside Festival is sponsored by Aylesbury Garden Town and designed to champion their vision of the canalside public space at the heart of Aylesbury town centre.
Part of Aylesbury Garden Town’s ethos is ensuring that quality green spaces are maintained and Waterside Festival, on Saturday 14 September from 11am-5.30pm, will be celebrating all that is thriving in the area. As well as offering a floating market, water and wildlife activities, children’s games and a stage showcasing music, dance and theatre performances, the festival will also promote ‘green living’ by encouraging visitors to cycle to the event.
Festival-goers can take advantage of free cycle parking or can choose to hire a bike from the team at Otec Bikes, who are also offering free cycle safety checks at this year’s festival.
If that isn’t enough to whet the appetite of festival-goers, the festival also also welcomes OMG! Streetfood to co-ordinate a food court, which in true Aylesbury Garden Town spirit has pledged to be environmentally friendly. With many traders already confirmed, there will be a selection of authentic all-around-the-world cuisine, as well as classic British ales and craft beers.
Matt Deprez, Managing Director of OMG! Streetfood said: ‘We’re delighted to be organising the food market for the Waterside Festival. We have a passion for great quality local produce and we want to showcase some of the best in the area.
‘We’ll have some delicious street food, artisan producers and of course, some sweet treats. We’ll be making a commitment to being as green as possible; that means no plastic drinks containers or straws, plus recyclable and compostable packaging and low food mileage. You can find out more about all of the traders on the OMG! Streetfood social media pages @omgstfood.’
Bill Chapple OBE, Chairman of Aylesbury Garden Town said: ‘The revitalised Aylesbury canal basin is an important part of our town centre and it’s great to see so many organisations, individuals and volunteers working in partnership to create what promises to be a spectacular event to celebrate historic Aylesbury’s waterways.
‘The event is free, so makes for an affordable day out. We know that being by the water can help improve our physical and mental health and ultimately improve our overall happiness. With a particular focus on family fun, we hope the festival will encourage people to visit and explore our wonderful canal and experience the benefits water brings.’
