Armed Forces Day ticket launch

Tickets are now available for Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 29. Guests gathered at High Wycombe Town Hall on Thursday afternoon to witness the official ticket launch (pictured) for the occasion which will take place at Wycombe Air Park.

Armed Forces Day is a national event held every year as a way of thanking our armed forces, including cadets, veterans, reservists and current serving personnel.

This year it will be held at a new venue at Wycombe Air Park but will feature the same fun, family-orientated entertainment and attractions as always, including air displays, live music, fairground rides, craft stalls and more.

While the event is aimed at currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets, it is also open to the public and this year, for the first time, the event will be free to attend, although visitors still have to book their free tickets online.

Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire, officially opened ticket ‘sales’ at the launch event which was attended by members of the local armed forces community, sponsors and other civic dignitaries.

Four guests were over 90, one being a 95-year-old former Halifax rear gunner; another was a 94-year-old veteran of D-Day; the third was a 93-year-old former Wren who marched in the official victory parade in 1945; and the fourth was a 92-year-old former 1st Btn 43/52 Light infantry veteran.

Speaking at the event Sir Henry said: ‘I’m excited to announce that tickets are now available for this year’s Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Armed Forces Day. We have a fantastic day of entertainment lined up for everyone to enjoy. We are especially pleased this year that due to us being able to seek enough sponsorship, we are able to offer free entry to everyone. I sincerely thank all our sponsors.”‘

Bill Bendyshe-Brown, Buckinghamshire County Council’s Armed Forces Champion, added: ‘Armed Forces Day is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to the men and women of our armed forces, past, present and future, for all that they do.

‘I also want to thank the Royal British Legion for their joint assistance in helping to lay on this occasion. Further, and most importantly, I want to thank Wycombe Air Park for allowing us to use their airfield for free. I want to urge everyone to come along and enjoy a fabulous day out and whilst at the same time, show their support and appreciation for the fantastic work carried out by all our armed forces.’
