Most people know DENS as the homeless charity for people in Dacorum. In fact, DENS do so much more than just provide a roof and a bed. Our aim is to be the first port of call for people in Dacorum who are facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion; to support and empower them to take the next positive step in their lives.

We ensure individuals have access to temporary and short-term accommodation, and individuals and families have access to emergency food and provisions. We provide accommodation options to support people to move on and sustain their own tenancy and we provide advice and training; empowering people to develop their skills and build confidence.

DENS has been helping to rebuild lives since 2003.

We provide a range of services, which together form a pathway to support individuals to take the next positive steps in their lives and become active members of the community.

Day Centre & Open Space – Daytime havens where people can get a hot meal, develop their skills and seek advice

The Elms Hostel – Providing temporary accommodation to those facing homelessness

Move On Service – A transition service for residents who are ready to take the next step on from The Elms, however still require support around independent living

Resettlement Service – Supporting clients who are moving from the Elms into council, social housing or private rented accommodation

Foodbank – Providing emergency food supplies and household provision to struggling local families

Social Enterprise Projects – Development of employability skills and self-confidence in a supportive environment

Sleepout 2021

This year, we are delighted to offer both a Sleepout at Hemel Hempstead School OR a virtual livestream that you can take part in at home by sleeping anywhere other than your bed!

Join friends, family and colleagues for an unforgettable night on Friday 26th November at The Hemel Hempstead School. Swap your cosy bed for a sleeping bag and put yourself in the place of those sleeping rough in the cold winter months and throughout the year.
