Meet the May makers
Queens Park Arts Centre’s annual May Maker’s Fair is returning for its fourth consecutive year, with this year’s event scheduled for Saturday, May 11.
The fair is a celebration of the talents of the centre’s many tutors, students, staff and volunteers. All the handmade art and craft on sale at the event has been created by home-grown artists and makers. There will be a wide variety of work to view and buy, including ceramics, textiles, woodwork, painting and drawing, jewellery and mixed crafts.
The centre’s artistic director Sarah Lewis said: ‘Queens Park’s drop-in workshops are proving more popular than ever. With more and more wonderful artists making use of the centre’s resources there’s never been a more fitting time to celebrate the amazing work created here at the centre, including pieces from our incredibly-talented volunteer tutors alongside the latest creations from the students and artists they’ve inspired and taught.’
As well as art and craft, there will be live entertainment throughout the day covering music, drama and dance – all provided by classes and groups who work at Queens Park.
‘Every part of the event is a celebration of Queens Park,’ said Sarah. ‘Our creative co-ordinator Amanda Wheaton has once again done a superb job in representing the breadth of the centre’s ever-increasing programme.’
There will be plenty of refreshments on offer as well, including a barbecue, pitchers of Pimm’s and cream teas, as well as homemade cakes on sale in the Queens Park Café, which also sells a range of hot snacks including paninis and soup.
Young artists will have a chance to get creative at a variety of art and craft activities led by experienced tutors.
The event runs from 10am-4pm. Entry is £2 (£1 for members and concessions). Under 14s go free, however there is a small charge for attending the arts activities. All profits from the event go toward the centre’s continued fundraising campaign.
