New chief's vision
Gareth Williams has been appointed new Chairman of the Aylesbury Garden Town Strategic Oversight Board.
Councillor Williams (pictured), Deputy Leader of Buckinghamshire Council and Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration, takes over from Councillor Steve Bowles, who has taken up a new role as Cabinet Member for Communities.
Mr Williams said: ‘I’m clear that our success will only be delivered by working with our partners and communities to fulfil the aspirations to make Aylesbury a thriving, vibrant, innovative and great place to live, work and invest in.’
Following the adoption of its Masterplan in July last year, Aylesbury Garden Town is already helping to transform Aylesbury into a successful, green and sustainable town for everyone, says Buckinghamshire Council.
For example, work has already started on several key projects including the Gardenway − a green orbital park and cycleway. There is also regeneration work on the town centre to help its recovery from the pandemic.
In addition, the recent HIF (Housing Infrastructure Funding) awarded to the council will now free up key infrastructure projects, such as sections of the link road network, new schools and health centres.
