Woodlands reprieved

Aylesbury Vale District Council has welcomed yesterday’s announcement by Transport Secretary, The Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, that HS2 Ltd should stop all ancient woodland clearances during the Oakervee review – unless they are absolutely necessary to avoid major cost and schedule impacts.

Council leader Angela Macpherson, said: ‘While welcoming the statement we have to maintain the pressure on HS2 Ltd to ensure that they do respond positively and responsibly to the Transport Secretary’s request – and don’t simply try to suggest that all works are ‘absolutely necessary’.

Indeed, I would ask the Transport Secretary to go further and tell HS2 Ltd to cease all land clearances, home and business evictions while the current review is being undertaken – and only recommence if the approval to proceed is ultimately granted.’
